Most of the cannabis operators I talk with have settled into a wait-and-see posture on rescheduling, and I understand why. The last two years handed this industry several moments that looked like the moment, and each one arrived with a wave of advice about what to do immediately. Acting on all of it would have been expensive. Ignoring all of it has been free so far.
So waiting is defensible. What I’d push back on is the assumption that waiting and doing nothing are the same thing, because the decisions that will determine how much relief you actually capture are ones you’re making right now, in the ordinary course of closing your books.
This is such an important topic that I wanted to make sure to cover it on Your Numbers Are Talking.
Some of the key takeaways / things to watch for are:
1. Waiting on rescheduling is reasonable. Assuming waiting and doing nothing are the same thing is not.
2. Two operators can use identical costing methods and end up in completely different positions.
3. The operators who capture relief fastest won’t be the ones who guessed the timing correctly.
